UPDATED: Woman dead after shooting in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Police in Jacksonville say a woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being shot Saturday evening.

According to a news release from Jacksonville Police, a call of shots fired came in to them around 5:45 p.m. in the 800 block of West Chambers Street.

A person was found there having been shot, and was transported to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The woman was later pronounced dead there.

Morgan County Coroner Marcy Patterson identified the victim Sunday as Marcquila Harris, 31, of Jacksonville. Patterson says an autopsy will be conducted on Monday.

The police news release says their investigation is continuing, and they believe the shooting was isolated.
