Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Domestic violence continues to be a problem in Sangamon and four other counties served by Sojourn Shelter and Services.

“In 2025, the number was a little over 4,000 (people served), including calls on the hotline — we have a lot of calls on the hotline,” said Ron Homan, Director of Prevention and Outreach, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch. “We have court advocates in all the five counties we cover. They’re busy…meetings at the courthouse, needing orders of protection, and help.”

Homan says there are a couple fundraisers to keep in mind if you want to help keep the mission going.

The seventh “Stand up for Sojourn” stand-up comedy night and silent auction will be in October, and there is also a raffle for a vacation.

“The dream vacation raffle — it’s on the website,” said Homan. “You can pick your location. I, personally, am going to spend the money on the flights, so I can get as far from Central Illinois as possible.”

All proceeds from the raffle, the comedy show, and a silent auction will go right to Sojourn.
