Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The University of Illinois Springfield’s softball team announced in a press release that they will be playing its next 10 games at the Springfield Clinic Dome at Scheels Sports Park, hosting two tournaments and an additional doubleheader in the new facility.
Weighing in with a size of 196,625 square feet, the Springfield Clinic Dome is currently the world’s largest indoor dome facility of its kind.
UIS will be using the facility for their upcoming tournament.
The tournament at the dome will utilize two playing fields and the upcoming game schedule is as follows:
Thursday, February 12
12:00 PM – UIS vs. Lake Erie
12:00 PM – Missouri S&T vs. Thomas More
2:30 PM – UIS vs. Lake Erie
2:30 PM – Missouri S&T vs. Thomas More
Friday, February 13
10:30 AM – UIS vs. Thomas More
10:30 AM – UIndy vs. Lake Erie
12:30 PM – UIS vs. Thomas More
12:30 PM – UIndy vs. Lake Erie
Currently, the UIS softball team is also catching wins.
UIS Athletic Director, Mike Hermann, spoke on the WTAX Morning Newswatch about why he believes they keep winning.
“One of the reasons we’ve won. Rosie Barletti, has been the conference player of the week two weeks in a row. She is a senior from here in Springfield, a Sacred Heart Griffin Graduate, and she is an outstanding pitcher first team all-conference a year ago, so no surprise she’s doing a great job. She is 3-0, she has won all three of her games.” Hermann stated.
Herman also commented on the excitement of playing at the Scheels Sports Park.
“They are great partners; we’re going to host a series of events there. We have a four-team tournament starting tomorrow. People always have said that Spring is here in our community, and if it was only 60 degrees and no wind, they would come see our softball games. Our next game is indoors and will be very comfortable.” Said Hermann.
