Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A proposed data center the Sangamon County Board will vote on next month, is apparently not the only one that may be coming to the area.

The Springfield Business Journal reports the Logan County Zoning Board will consider a data center project planned for Latham at their meeting January 8th.

Publisher Michelle Ownbey tells the WTAX Morning Newswatch it will be similar in size compared to the Cyrus One project, but won’t be built by them.

“This particular company is called ‘Hut 8’, a closed-loop system with recirculated water, so similar to the one proposed for Sangamon County, but certainly a huge impact nonetheless,” said Ownbey.

Hut 8 is a publicly-traded company based in Miami.

“There are still a lot of unknowns,” said Ownbey.  “Even the Zoning Administrator for Logan County says they’re supposed to be getting more information from the developer this week.”

A final Logan County Board vote could also come as soon as January 20th.  The Cyrus One project could also be considered by the Sangamon County Board in January.
