UPDATE:  Springfield woman pleads guilty to lesser charges in 2024 stabbing death

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield woman has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a 2024 murder.

Court records indicate Julie Marshall. 43. pleaded guilty to charges of Second Degree Murder.  She had faced First-Degree Murder counts.

Marshall stabbed 23-year-old Michael Gristy in the neck in June of 2024 while in East North Grand Avenue.  Gristy was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Marshall was, according to reports, Gristy’s mother.

Marshall could face up to 20 years in prison when sentenced September 4.
