SPD:  Gang violence investigation nets 5 arrests, 11 guns seized this week

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Investigative this week by two units of the Springfield Police have, so far, paid off.

According to a news release, Springfield Police’s Crimes Against Persons and Street Crimes Unit have been conducting investigations since Sunday, January 11, “to target firearm and gang violence in the City of Springfield.”

So far, police said, five people have been arrested and eleven guns have been seized.  They did not provide information on the names of the arrested, or charges faced.

Police do say that they have conducted “proactive details and served search warrants on known gang members within the city.”  It’s not clear where the details have taken place.

“It is the Springfield Police Department’s mission to take a proactive approach to combat violence in the City of Springfield, including firearm and gang related violence,” said the news release.  “The brave men and women of the Springfield Police Department will continue to work tirelessly each shift to make sure the city and it’s [sic] citizens are safe.”
