Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) -The Sangamon County Fair will host a free community appreciation event Saturday at the fairgrounds in New Berlin to recognize the people who help organize the annual fair.

Roy Pierceall, the Head of the Sangamon County Fair Board, shares details during an interview on WTAX Morning Newswatch.

The “Back to the ’90s” themed event is intended to thank volunteers, sponsors, vendors and community members while building excitement ahead of fair season.

“That’s what this is all about, an appreciation for the people that help make this possible,” Pierceall said.
Organizers plan for the fair year-round, Pierceall said, noting the event is a way to recognize those ongoing efforts.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday with free admission. The event will include a cash bar and a free taco-nacho bar while supplies last. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early due to an expected large crowd.

Live music will be provided by Neon Rodeo beginning at 8 p.m., along with giveaways and prize opportunities.  The event will also feature a canned food drive. Attendees who bring canned or boxed food items will receive a ticket for a chance to win VIP passes to a concert at this year’s fair.

Pierceall said this year’s grandstand lineup includes Scotty McCreery and Josh Turner, calling it a “blockbuster” show.
