Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Former U.S. Rep. in this area, Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville), was being given a lot of the credit this week for helping bring the new Sangamon County Transportation Center to a place where it could actually be built.

Officials Tuesday said Davis’ Washington connections, along with others, helped make the project, and the accompanying move of rail traffic from Third Street to Tenth Street a reality.

But Davis says it wasn’t just him.

“(Credit also goes to) the members of Congress who helped make sure that this project not only came to reality, but came to reality in the vision that all the Sangamon County leaders wanted, which was right here on 10th Street,” said Davis, at a beam-signing ceremony Tuesday at the Sangamon County Complex.

Davis also brought up former Congressmen John Shimkus, Aaron Schock, and Bobby Schilling for coordinating a letter that got the project off Third Street to begin with.

But, no matter who gets the credit, the fact that it’s getting done is that makes Davis happy the most.

“You’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel; pardon the pun there,” said Davis.  “It would not have happened without the extreme support of city and county officials, and extreme bipartisan support of all levels of government.”

While Davis has still provided support to the project, these days, he’s Head of Government Relations for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
