UPDATE: One dead, one injured, after Springfield east side shooting

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the male who died as Barrion Sanders, 20. An autopsy indicates Sanders died from multiple gunshot wounds.


Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Police are investigating a late-evening shooting Thursday claimed the life of one person, and injured another.

According to a news release, Springfield Police say it happened around 10:15 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of East Edwards, on the city’s east side. Calls claimed multiple shots had been fired.

Investigators found two people inside a car in that area. One, identified by Sangamon County Coroner Jiim Allmon says was a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Another, a woman, was also taken to the hospital, but has non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the man killed has not been released.
