Man shot to death in Springfield early Saturday

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A man is dead following an overnight shooting Saturday near downtown Springfield.

Springfield Police says in a news release the shooting happened just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of East Washington Street, in between 4th and 5th Streets.

A man was seen down and given emergency care.  He was taken to the hospital, but police say he died.

The man’s name is not yet being released, and the investigation is being described as ongoing.
