Springfield, IL (WAND) – Mhynesia Day, 22, and her cousin, 9-year-old Cash Russell, were tragically shot to death on Oct. 9, leaving their family heartbroken.

“My baby is not coming back. You shot her in the head … You killed her in front of her son that I have comfort. She is not coming back. Do you know what you’ve done?” said Kinisha Mahr, Mhynesha’s mother.

As she reflects on her daughter’s life, Mahr says Mhynesha’s sweet personality will be missed. Cash Russell has a twin brother, and during the shooting, the brothers were together. Sadly, Russell’s twin brother watched him die.

“He told his brother to hide, and he said no because he heard an altercation going on with my daughter and the baby. Cash was going to check on that baby,” Mahr said.

Namiyah Bias is Mhynesha’s little sister—she said she would not wish the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence on anyone.

“It’s got to stop. I know it’s not going to stop, but they have to understand everything is not about just taking people’s lives,” Bias said.

The family is arranging services for both their loved ones and appreciates any help from the community during this time. A GoFundMe link was created by the family, and they expressed that anything is helpful.
