Decatur, IL (WAND) – A Decatur man was arrested and charged with producing child pornography after using artificial intelligence to create explicit images of an underage girl.

Decatur police were sent to a home Jan. 29 regarding a child pornography incident.

According to a sworn statement, DPD encountered a woman at the scene who said she was going through photos on a phone belonging to Alexander Martinez, 23, and found altered photos of her underage sister.

The sworn statement said that the photos were modified using AI to make her appear fully nude.

The woman said the pictures were set to be deleted from Alexander’s phone, and sent them to herself to prevent the destruction of evidence.

She showed the photos to police, which included six frontal nude images of the girl, and her in a see-through bathing suit, according to the sworn statement.

Decatur police later went to Martinez’s home to speak with him about the pictures, but he refused.

Martinez was arrested and charged with seven counts of producing child pornography.

Court records show that Martinez pleaded not guilty to the charges and was denied pretrial release.

He will have a pretrial hearing set for April 1.
