UPDATE:  Crews respond to crash on I-55 in Springfield

UPDATED 7:04 p.m.

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – An accident late Thursday afternoon continued to back up traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Springfield into the evening hours.

Illinois State Police say it happened around 4:20 p.m. near Stevenson Drive, and involved several vehicles and at least one semi truck. Injuries are said to be only minor so far.

While I-55 southbound lanes were closed for at least several hours, there were delays growing on the northbound side.

Motorists were being urged to seek alternate routes.

No word on any arrests or traffic tickets.
