Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher has issued a curfew for Springfield that is in effect from 10pm tonight through 5 am Friday morning.

The executive order has been issued due to the severe storms that moved through Central Illinois today. The local state of emergency is in place because “the damage and destruction to the City is to such an extent that the extraordinary measures must be taken to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the City of Springfield and its residents”.

During a Zoom call earlier this evening Mayor Buscher stated that the curfew was put in place so that crews could work overnight without a great deal of other traffic, and because many of the City’s traffic lights are not working, and power is out, it will be very dark to drive.

The Mayor also said officials would know better tomorrow afternoon if another curfew would be issued for Springfield.
